  The Institute of International Education at Stockholm University accepted a commission to study the development of ICT education in Sweden with the aim of creating a model for development in Sida Partner Countries. To achieve the end goal of building a model that guides development, research was done on how Sweden raised the ICT knowledge of its labour force, focusing on roles played by the public and private sectors, and also research on surveys of ICT training and education initiatives in Tanzania.

  This study was undertaken by HakiElimu, Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA) and the Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC). The study was to test whether access to information differed by the type of person or organization making the request. Findings show that access to information in Tanzania is poor and only about a quarter of the requests of information were responded satisfactorily, after significant time and follow up.

No less than 128 projects, out of the total of approved projects in the Stockholm Challenge Award 2006, come from Africa and will be assessed by a special jury. The winner of the WSIS Challenge Award will receive a prize worth 10.000 Euro, donated by SPIDER and get an allowance from IDRC for two team members to travel to Stockholm for the final event in May 2006.
